If Pets Ran The World
I once had a dream of how it would be
It pets ran the world, and were like you and like me.
Life was quite strange, and not just a bit,
Dogs, cats and birds were all in charge of it.I visited a doctor to have an ear-ache studied,
And a dog hurried in, with his outfit all muddied.
He growled and panted and made a notation,
“Relax, while I prepare for the operation.”Even though my ear was still quite sore,
I rushed very quickly out that dog-doctor's door,
There's no way a canine surgery could be sanitary.
He's just been running all over the planetary!I looked for a train or taxi, and then found a bus,
To ride to the next town to find people like us.
But when I got in, the driver meowed at me,
“Put a kibble in the box, for that is the fee.”
Even if the kitty obeyed all the laws,
How could he steer a bus with those little paws?
I jumped off that bus despite my ear-ache,
If that cat had to stop, could his feet reach the brake?I decided to stop in a café for a meal,
Certainly some food might help my ear heal.
I ordered a burger, a pickle and chips,
The lemonade was cool, so I took some big sips.Soon I got settled and began to relax,
Prepared to enjoy a few tasty snacks.
Then suddenly the cook flew in with my plate,
On it were bugs, seeds, nuts and a date!The cook was no chef, but some feathered creature,
A parrot, I gathered, from his dominant feature:
A beak, that was large and shaped like a bird's,
And when he spoke, he repeated his words.So I skipped lunch and headed back home,
Where I lay down to finish my poem.
My dog, Max, stopped by my bed,
My cat, Gus, curled up near my head.Even my bird, Lilly, sang me a tune,
I shut my eyes and was asleep very soon.
My ear-ache was gone and world as it should be,
For my best friends, Max, Gus, and Lilly… and me.
